About USAA

USAA is widely regarded as one of the smoothest carriers for property claims. They serve active duty military, veterans, and their families. Response is typically fast and adjusters tend to be cooperative on legitimate claims.

How a USAA claim typically goes

  1. Step 1

File via the USAA mobile app or by calling 1-800-531-USAA.

  2. Step 2

Claim number issued immediately. Adjusters often respond within hours during business days.

  3. Step 3

USAA frequently approves emergency mitigation start before the adjuster visits.

  4. Step 4

Direct billing is common and well-supported.

Common friction with USAA — and how we handle it

USAA sometimes wants their preferred-contractor (CONNECT) network to handle the work.

You have the absolute right to choose your contractor. USAA will pay your selected restoration company at the same rates — your choice, not theirs.

Tip: call us before you call USAA

Restoration crews can be on-site within hours; an adjuster may take a day or two. The faster mitigation starts, the smaller (and cheaper) the final loss. Most $USAA policies expressly authorize emergency mitigation prior to adjuster contact.

USAA claims — FAQ

Yes. We coordinate with USAA adjusters routinely across Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia. Direct billing is available where USAA allows; otherwise we provide a clean, line-item invoice for reimbursement.

No. You have the absolute right to choose any licensed restoration company for your claim. USAA will pay your selected restoration provider at the same rates as their preferred network. The choice is yours, not theirs.

Most USAA field adjusters reach out within 1–3 business days of filing. Emergency losses (active water, fire just out) can be flagged for expedited assignment. We can start mitigation immediately — the IRS-approved standard is that reasonable emergency mitigation steps are reimbursable.

Photos of the loss from the first hour, daily moisture readings during drying, scope of work in Xactimate format, before/after documentation, and a clear cause-of-loss narrative. We provide all of this as part of every job and submit it directly to your adjuster.
